Destructive downpour devastates Laurel Creek township crops
Farmers report the heaviest rain since the 1916 flood sweeping from Sugar Grove to the Watauga River. Bottom lands stripped, caverns opened in fields, topsoil carried away, and bridges along cross-country roads damaged. Cove Creek and Meat Camp towns hit hard with plantations damaged. Lightning strikes Old Long home in Oak Grove
The Tommy Ragan family saw a severe electrical storm strike their Oak Grove house early Monday morning. A locust tree near the dwelling split, a two by four was torn from the frame, a window sash was smashed, and three children slept in the damaged room.
