Robert R. Butler Dies in Washington D C Age 51
Congressman Robert R. Butler of Oregon died Saturday at Providence Hospital Washington D C after weeks with pneumonia. He was 51, survived by his mother Mrs W R Butler of Mountain City and a daughter Metty Butler. Butler served in Congress since 1928 and earlier held Oregon Senate seats. He was buried in The Dalles Oregon with a large entourage of relatives and colleagues attending the funeral arrangements ahead.

Mary Louise Jones 79 dies at home in Ashe County
Mrs. Mary Louise Jones 79 of Silas Creek Ashe County died at her home on Saturday morning December 31 after a period of high blood pressure. Burial services were held Monday afternoon with interment in the nearby cemetery. Surviving are eight children including Troy I Jones noted for his wide Watauga connections.

Raleigh reports that North Carolina allocates a $1,635,000 Reconstruction Finance Corporation loan for January and February to aid emergency relief.
