Martin Banner Funeral at Banner Elk Tuesday
Funeral services for Martin Banner who died at his home on Sugar Mountain near Montezuma Monday morning were held at the Presbyterian Church in Banner Elk Tuesday at 2 o clock. He was 84 and had been ill for years. Survived by ten children two brothers C C Banner of Montezuma and Newton Banner of Sugar Grove two sisters. Banner was a pioneer settler and a well known Watauga County resident. He was a member of the Methodist Church and an admirable citizen.

Election cases postponed until regular term in Wilkes County
Watauga election officials and conspirators charged over the 1930 ballot will not appear before Judge Johnson J. Hayes in Wilkesboro Monday. The cases are moved to the next regular Federal Court term in May. Several defense attorneys also serve in the Legislature, possibly influencing the postponement. Republicans reportedly favor new prosecution, but information remains unverified. Seventeen Democratic defendants were acquitted in August. remaining defendants hail from Boone and Stony Fork areas, numbered around 21.

Street Work Provides Jobs For Unemployed
State borrowed funds from the RFC unemployment relief support street improvement programs. About twenty long out of work men are employed on a three days on duty and three days off system. Blowing Rock High School remains closed for a week due to community influenza prevalence. Principal Grady Tester said the malady should abate soon and the school may reopen next Monday. Civil War veteran Harvey Davis laid to rest at 92
Harvey A. Davis of Watauga County, first to answer the Civil War call from Folk and a veteran of the First North Carolina Cavalry, died at 92.
