The Watauga Farm Institute, held over a Thursday closing, featured C F Parrish and Professor Coley from State College on Poultry Production and Marketing. H R Niswonger spoke on growing horticultural crops and soil improvement, with 1000+ farmers attending despite heavy snow.
Stanley A. Harris addressed Boone Civitan Club at the Daniel Boone Hotel noting Boy Scout work nationwide and urging a Boone reorganization with church support to revive a past successful program. The noon meeting drew a large audience and featured an engaging program.
The Farmers Institute praised Wade Harris editor of the Charlotte Observer for twenty five years promoting Watauga County interests. A resolution thanked him and wished him a long happy life. President Hoover accepts the resignation of Chief Justice William Howard Taft, who retires after forty years on the bench. Former Secretary of State Charles Evans Hughes is named to succeed him, with Taft resting in Asheville prior to the handover. Robert A. Taft delivered the papers in Washington.

The Democrat reported Watauga Township led in imported thoroughbred bulls, but Roy Adams of Cove Creek says his township has nine purebreds, about twice Watauga’s count. Six Herefords and three Shorthorns. Adams notes the scrub stock is nearly eliminated in his area.
Appalachian State College Mountaineers meet Atlantic Christian Bulldogs in a hard local showdown. The Bulldogs recently crushed Guilford and High Point, and the Mountaineers face a schedule heavy with key Little Six foes as they seek improvement and victory.
A stockholders meeting of the Wa tauga Building and Loan Association is set for Monday February 17 at 2 o clock to elect a board of directors. The session will be at the association offices in the Watauga County Bank building and full attendance is urged.
Appalachian State College defeated High Point College 29 to 21 on the local floor with Canipe and O Hare leading the Mountaineers. The Mountaineers then beat Lenoir Rhyne 22 to 17 in a fast, hard fought rematch, with C Hinson scoring nine and Pyatte, Canipe and Hinson key in the second half rally.
Industrial Commissioner T A Wilson ruled the death of Lloyd Parsons, a worker on Elkland Consolidated School roof, was a legal employment and the two counties Ashe and Watauga school boards must split a death claim. Parsons left dependents $35 weekly from the total $7.20 each for 50 weeks. Also Carteret County farmers gain $1,551.18 from cooperative shipment of 78 live hogs.
