Confederate Veteran Thomas H. Sutherland Dies at 86
Thomas H. Sutherland 86 a Confederate veteran died at home near Sutherland after a brief illness. Funeral services were held at Sutherland Chapel with two reverends officiating. burial in Sutherland Cemetery. He survived by six children and six grandchildren named Irene Kathleen Marie Mildred Francis Nell, with six sons and daughters as pallbearers. He enlisted at fifteen and was likely the last member of the 6th Regiment Company E. He moved to Alleghany County after the war, then North Fork, and spent the rest of his life there. The community mourns his passing.

Former Watauga Lady Dies in Post Falls Idaho
Mrs. Clarinda Moretz born November 19 1869 in Mabel North Carolina died October 30 in Post Falls Idaho at age 62 11 11. She married Roby Moretz February 13 1890 and moved west in 1905 with their son Phil Moretz. Burial was at Pleasant View Cemetery with Rev. D O Ray officiating.

Federal prohibition agents seized thirty gallons of Wilkes corn whiskey along with an automobile and driver in Watauga County on a Friday evening.
