Illinois wartime governor Frank O. Lowden was named the Republican state convention choice for the presidential nomination in Springfield. The state's 61 delegates were instructed to bring about his nomination.
Forty seven hopefuls filed with the state board of elections by Friday night for two state offices lieutenant governor and commissioner of labor and printing and for several congressional seats. The group tours in a Willys Knight car decorated with Abilene Texas pins and Broadway of America ads as they visit Memphis Asheville and Johnson City before Florida.

Joe McCrary packs 125 to 450 pounds of cracked ice around the base of each bearing tree in his Tulsa orchard to slow sap flow and delay budding during frost danger. A three inch straw layer covered by dirt prevents melting. removal of straw lets ice melt and blossoms proceed.
Sugar Grove April 28 The Cove Creek high school will begin Friday afternoon April 27 and run through Sunday with a program by the grades on Friday, senior class exercises Friday night, diplomas Saturday morning, senior play Saturday night, and sermons Sunday afternoon.
Wallace Barry publisher of the Johnson County News Mountain City is recovering from a self inflicted bullet wound in a despondent incident. A .22 rifle bullet struck his rib deflected and exited through his left arm, avoiding vital organs. No cause for the attempted death is known.
