Progress on Highway 69 From Vilas to Valle Crucis
Work on Highway 69 progresses under Mr. Tester with 20 to 25 trucks daily using Watauga river gravel free of dirt. The road, to a depth of 12 to 14 inches, will later receive a portable crusher and two bridges over Bairds Creek. Completion to Valle Crucis is expected in about 30 days, improving access to Banner Elk Elk Park and the Watauga valley.
