C T Simmons and T D Greere plan to raise strawberries for the market. Allen Miller traveled to Boone on business. Jud Hodges and N G Wheeler are ill or traveling. Carrie Critcher appeared in the community Sunday. Granville Triplett returns.

A. W. Jenkins a former Watauga countian died Friday March 28 at his son W M Jenkins home in Eubank Kentucky from heart disease. Interment followed Sunday in Eubank cemetery per his request.

W A Watson continues life insurance sales. Felix Watson leaves for Ohio to join relatives. Mrs Cordin Wellborn recovers from illness as roads stay muddy in rainy season. The Appalachian Training School anticipates a large Summer Term with about 100 teachers already reserving spots. President B B Dougherty reports good health and plans to deliver commencement speeches in Alleghany County as the school closes several area high schools.

Reports from Paris say over ten thousand prospectors swarm the Stompirs district in Transvaal after discoveries of enormous diamonds rivaling Kimberley finds. A Rhodesian farmer unearthed a dozen gems on land deemed worthless, with one stone weighing 35 carats.
Due to illness Rev A C Sherwood cannot attend the Cove Creek High School commencement. Rev G C Teague, Wake Forest College graduate and pastor of Lower Creek Baptist Church Caldwell, will deliver the commencement sermon. The play Borrowed Money will be performed at 8 p m Saturday instead of 1 pm as previously announced.
The Boone school Parent-Teachers Association held its annual meeting at the public school Friday April 11 electing Mrs I G Greer president Mrs F M Huegins secretary Mrs W G Hartzog assistant secretary and Mrs F A Linney treasurer all unanimously chosen The group also reviewed the year with a treasury balance of 104 13 and discussed strengthening parent teacher relations A talk by Miss Annie Stanbury highlighted the event with a short social to follow May meeting date to be announced.
Reverend Williams preached at Meat Camp Methodist Church as construction continues on the house and May meetings are planned. Local residents Mr. D W Winebarger and others visited. several people traveled from Zionville Boone and Pine Run with updates on health and business. a rheumatism sufferer improves.

W D Norris a prominent county resident died at his Route 2 home after a long illness following a partial stroke. Funeral services were held at his home with Masonic burial honors by Watauga Lodge No 273. He was 83 and survived by his wife, children, grandchildren, and sister Mrs Ann Hayes.
Floyd Tate visited Hubert and Luther Hardy on Sunday. Howard and Hub Foster visited relatives and attended services at Howard's Creek church. A. M. Brown remains in feeble health. Larry Lane returned from Alva with a large pipe presented to John Barnes. Finley Hodges began building a new house near Howard's Creek church. Larry Lane bought six chairs for summer seating. Mrs. Hubert Hardy and Verlee Tate traveled to Boone on business. Camp Nelson preaching time set for Sunday. Alma Barnes, a student at the A T S, is ill. Exie Hodges and Blanch Sturgill visit neighbors. Jont Miller and wife welcomed a baby girl. R. G. Lane ill with lagrippe. Wilby Brown and Newton Barnes run a sawmill.Death of Bill Norris grieves the community. Bob Norris and Rom Brannock attend funeral. W. B. Culler in Boone painting. Rev Linney Barnes wed a wife named Hank on Ashe county’s mountain, now staying with Barnes' children.
Mr. L. R. Lane returned home and took charge of the section of the Cherokee Lumber Co. The people seem to think that he is getting the road in much better condition than it has been before. Rev. Pennell will hold services at Camp Nelson Sunday 2 o'clock. Ev erybody cordially invited. Mr. L. S. Hardy is improving.
