Patterson School building destroyed by fire in Yadkin Valley
A fire at Palmyra Pat terson Industrial School for boys in Yadkin Valley destroyed the main building and a granary late yesterday afternoon. The blaze started in the laundry adjoining the main building and spread through the roof before help arrived. Cottages nearby were threatened but saved. Lenoir News Topic.

Widow of Zeb Vance Dead Near Black Mountain
Mrs Zebu lon Baird Vance widow of North Carolina governor Zeb Vance died at her home near Black Mountain at 3 pm after months of illness. Born September 24, 1840 in Kentucky she supported Confederate veterans and the Daughters of the Confederacy. Her husband lies interred at Riverside cemetery.

Beavers Dam farmer Ray Wilson, promoter of the Beaver Dam Cheese Factory, kept detailed milk and feed records for five cows. His herd averaged 65.14 pounds of milk daily with one cow at 79.86 pounds and another at 44.78 pounds, all contributing to local profitability and manure yields. He milks seven cows in April averaging 32.2 pounds per day, and aims to raise his per cow average to 10,000 pounds aided by soy bean hay. He also raises seed potatoes and kraut cabbage while a Tennessee visitor eyed a local cow for sale.
