Simmons Ends 30 Year Span in Senate Bid
Washington reports Senator Furnifold M. Simmons filed for re election with North Carolina state elections board and paid the entrance fee. If renominated and reelected, the term would be his fifth in the U S Senate and complete thirty years of service. He is the senior Democratic senator by length of service. only Lodge and Warren have longer tenures. Simmons first won election to the House in 1886.

The Cove Creek High School annual commencement is set for Friday to Sunday April 18 to 20. Activities include a declamation and recitation contest with gold medals, a music recital, an operetta The Princess of Poppyland, senior class day exercises, diploma and certificate awards, and a four act play Borrowed Money with admission 15 cents for children and 35 cents for adults. The Sunday service will be the commencement sermon by Rev. A. C. Sherwood of Erwin Tennessee.

County residents win reinstatement of farm agent
Hundreds of Boone residents met on Monday to protest the proposed removal of county farm agent John B. Steele. He was reinstated with a new term expiring July 25, 1925, and the public expresses gratitude to the commissioners.

Uncle Jerry LenOir dies. revered Watauga figure
Uncle Jerry LenOir a respected colored citizen of Boone and Civil War veteran died at home Monday night at nearly 80. He lived in Watauga most of his life and was a faithful Methodist. He was laid to rest yesterday afternoon in the town cemetery with Rev. Peeler leading funeral rites.
