Army and Navy discuss troop movements and equipment tests
The War Department outlines Philippines troop movements through September 1612 and reviews tests of motor trucks and cavalry equipment. It notes a two and a half year tour of service, experiments with new sabers, holsters, and the amalgamation bill for naval and army pay structures, plus wireless telegraphy developments and repair-ship plans.
Army Chaplains and Staff Posts Shuffled as Duty Rises
The War Department outlines vacancies and expected appointments for army chaplains and military attaches. Candidates for the chaplain vacancy will be narrowed to about six and likely named by the President upon his return to Washington. The next chaplain retirement is due next September for age. Capt J H Reeves’s post as military attache at Peking will be filled within a month. Monrovia Liberia’s military attache seat may go to Capt Charles Young or First Lieut John S. Green, both African American officers. The medical department reports a growing reserve stock adequate for an army of up to one million. Troop movements to the Philippines and Hawaii require more recruits and ships, with overcrowded transports and no spare capacity on transpacific routes.
