F F Sharron a Washington post office inspector arrested four people in Hagerstown for sending written matter at third class rates inside packages of cigar and tobacco prize tags to Winston-Salem North Carolina. They pleaded guilty and paid the minimum ten dollar fines each under Post Office rules. Sharron reports 100 cases in his district across seven Maryland counties and eleven Virginia counties. Veteran commits death by own action at National Soldiers Home
Special to the Washington Post from Newport News Virginia reports that Christian Koch, seventy four, a Company K member at the National Soldiers Home, was found dead in the cellar of his quarters. He reportedly hanged himself by tying a rope to a reacher and sitting on a chair, attempting to break his neck before suffocating. Koch, a Civil War veteran of the Fifth Pennsylvania Cavalry, was a Philadelphia native with supposed relatives there.
