Larger tobacco sales under favorable weather at Petersburg

Special to The Washington Post reports Petersburg and Lynchburg markets showing strong receipts and rising prices. In Lynchburg 741,800 pounds sold last week, up from 685,700, with favorable weather and active trade. From Sept 1, 1905 to Jan 14, 1906 sales reached 6,168,500 pounds, up 1,223,800 versus last year. Petersburg saw resumed sales after holidays, with about 440,000 pounds sold at an average $8.75 per hundred. high prices reached four dollars per hundred for dark wrappers. One third of last year’s crop is marketed locally.

Chicago business men start on tour of South and West

Oscar G. Murray president of the Baltimore and Ohio Railroad enjoyed a cordial Galveston welcome after visiting Hot Springs.
