French Gambling Bill Aims At Regulating Resort Casinos
Paris reports alarm as government bans all gambling at health resorts and watering places. A proposed bill would require municipal permission and interior minister licenses for gaming rooms, set season hours, and mandate French staff. Ten percent of profits would fund public benevolence or utilities. The measure lists 17 resorts with prior gambling profits near 5.4 million. Other proposals urge parimutuel branches in Paris and large towns with varied profit allocations. Horse racing funding arguments frame the debate, opposing or supporting Rouby’s plan.
