Boisterous trio jailed after chaotic arrest scene
Deputy Marshal Gates and Constable Enoch Cheek arrested Everatt Jones and James Moore on Thursday afternoon after a violent struggle at the jail. Jones struck the eye of the officer and toppled him down an embankment before both men were jailed and later released on good behavior. Farmer Thomas Ross was jailed for intoxicated disturbance at Lockridge’s barn and is set for mayor’s court Thursday at nine.

Orphus Guy an eight year old boy living near Black Oak was run over by a heavy logging wagon loaded with two logs. He fell beneath the wagon as it passed over his legs but no bones were broken though both legs are badly bruised. Recovery will take several days.
