The Evening Journal reports a telephoned bomb threat forced evacuation at Lincoln Elementary. Principal, staff, and students left the building by 11:43 a.m. and returned around 1 p.m. after a search found no device. The caller, described as a mature woman, warned of a blast at 11:45 or 12:45. Authorities traced the call. no threat to Stewart Elementary is noted.

Free $100 Bills Shocks Marion Center Class
A Marion Center Elementary School teacher asked each student to raise a hand for a $100 bill and every hand rose. A 10-year-old boy had taken $10,000 in $100 bills from his mother's purse after receiving a federal black lung settlement. On the bus he distributed notes to friends, buying pencils and model cars for $200 each. Three hours passed before staff realized the money was real, and they recovered all but $400 as of today.

Painting spree leads to felony charges in Kalona
A 20 year old man faces charges of malicious injury to a building after a Thursday morning vandalism spree in Kalona. Authorities report at least seven premises were spray painted with obscenities, including a car wash, John’s 66 Station, Katie’s Flowers, the fire station door, Wayside Inn, a Hershberger Feed grain bin, and the Sunnyview Conservative Mennonite Church. Total damage estimated around 300 dollars. Deputy Ted Fedler said a voluntary statement is on file. The felony carries up to five years in prison.
