The Farmers Home Administration bought $242000 in City of Ainsworth water revenue bonds at 5 percent. The 40 year bonds fund a deep water well and treatment plant, repaid from water revenues. Oct 26 set for signing and pre construction meeting. council passed a new water rate ordinance to raise revenues for the project.
The Iowa National Guard airlifted 3-day-old Raeanne Peiffer of Washington to University Hospitals after delivery six weeks premature. Weighing three pounds at birth, she was in need of specialized care due to heavy Farm Progress Show traffic. Raeanne was listed as doing well.
In Waverly Iowa a man trapped under a bus rear axle was saved by a group of farmers as the bus toppled onto him. Ron Swinton 22 of Waverly an employee of a tire store had been replacing a tire when another tire blew out and the bus fell. Swinton was listed in good condition today.
In Des Moines early today a gunman fatally shot Jesse Conly Jr., 33, in the head during a hallway shooting in a north side apartment building. His father, Jesse Conly Sr., was in critical condition at Mercy Hospital with gunshot wounds. one man was in custody for questioning as investigators pursued leads.
Weather forecast notes increasing cloudiness with chances of showers and thunderstorms tonight and on Friday. Tonight lows around mid 50s, Friday highs near 70. Winds from the south to southeast at 5 to 10 mph. Rain chances 30 percent tonight, 50 percent Friday.

President Carter told House Republicans that they had worked closely with him on defense and international matters, praising their help on establishing an energy department and the plan to sell AWACS planes to Iran. He said he would urge leaders to curb wasteful Pentagon spending, including funds for six B-1 bombers, and noted progress toward a Geneva Peace Conference after talks with Arab leaders.
