Iowa truck driver killed in I-80 rear-end crash near Starved Rock State Park
An Iowa semi driver from Cedar Rapids died after his truck crashed into the rear of another tanker semi on Interstate 80 near Starved Rock State Park in Utica Illinois. The other driver Benford Gillspie, 28, Bettendorf Iowa, was uninjured. Both tankers carried flammable liquids. no explosion occurred.

Gladbrook couple burned in home explosion tragedy
Elmer Martens died at 68 in an Iowa City hospital after an explosion at their Gladbrook home caused severe burns. His wife Esther remained in critical condition after attempting to smother his burning clothes. Fire chief Paul Mohr said a liquid ice mix ignited the stove in the basement around 8 a.m. Tuesday.

Richard M. Reddy, 34, pleaded guilty to manslaughter in his wife Roselyn Reddy's 1976 Davenport death. He must perform three years of public service at near-poverty level after judges urged atonement following the couple's tragedies, including their 7 year old daughter Shannon's death. Driver Injured After Early Morning Chase Crash
James Clair Vaughn of Iowa City was injured when his car left highway 218 south of Haskins at 3 12 a m while being pursued by area peace officers. He was thrown from the demolished vehicle and landed in a snow bank. He is in good condition at University Hospitals. Charges filed include three counts of running red lights one count of driving left of center speeding 75 in a 45 zone reckless driving driving while license revoked failure to yield to an emergency vehicle and a third count of operating a motor vehicle while under the influence.
