Washington County Sheriff Donald R. Robertson resigned effective Oct. 1 after eight years in office. Deputy Yale H. Jarvis, a veteran since 1973, will serve as acting sheriff until the 1976 general elections. Robertson cited family reasons and housing concerns at the jail, and expressed support for creating a joint county law enforcement center with shared facilities and radio systems.

Nine drill sergeants to face court martial at Ft Leonard Wood
At Ft Leonard Wood Missouri nine drill sergeants will be court-martialed next week for allegedly taking bribes from trainees in exchange for favors. Some bribes were reportedly disguised as birthday gifts and other alleged acts include making trainees wash and wax a sergeant's car gambling with trainees and striking a trainee with a rifle butt. Maj Thomas Cuthbert said twenty NCOs are under investigation at the base which staffs 507 drill sergeants.

Iowa farmers posted 1974 cash receipts from marketing at 7.8 billion dollars, up 4 percent from 1973, while net farm income fell 56 percent to 1.20 billion.
