In Sioux City health officials opened two emergency clinics at Woodrow Wilson Junior High and Franklin Elementary to immunize over 1,000 pupils after a third family showed diphtheria exposure. California trio arrested after Somers holdup and chase
Three men from Petaluma and Santa Rosa California were arrested after robbing John Wooten of Somers at gunpoint and fleeing in a car. The crashed vehicle halted near Fort Dodge and police captured the trio who pleaded guilty to armed robbery and were bound over on $2,500 bond each.

Trampoline Skills Offered at Washington YMCA Series

In Kinloch Missouri a shotgun wounded three officers and a bystander as police tried to arrest six people. Arson fires destroyed 80 percent of Dunbar Elementary and damaged the police chief home. About 25 people were arrested. curfew imposed from 10 p.m. by Mayor Clarence Lee.

The Flying Tiger liner Celerina ditched 550 miles off Shannon after its wing was ripped in a stormy sea. Of 76 aboard, 48 survived and 12 bodies were recovered as searchers, led by the Bonaventure, scoured the Atlantic for the 16 still missing.

New Loading Dock Under Construction At Local Post Office
The Washington post office starts a temporary 16 foot square loading dock with a roof and floor but no enclosure. Postmaster Harry Levy says the larger area will provide space for temporary storage until mail moves inside. Pickup Overturns injuring Clyde Garrett near Brighton
Clyde Henry Garrett of 615 North Seventh sustained broken ribs cuts and bruises after his pickup went out of control on a gravel road one mile north and twenty two miles west of Brighton. The crash occurred about 6 pm Monday as the truck crossed into ditches on both sides before overturning. Garrett was taken to Washington County Hospital by Merle Farrier.
