Riverside Papers Change Hands With New Lone Tree Publisher
The Riverside News and Shopper will gain a new publisher after October 1 as Glen L. Edwards and his wife purchase the Lone Tree Reporter from Mr. and Mrs. Stewart Bell. The Bell family plans to move to Washington. Edwards plans to continue operating the Lone Tree plant. The Bells have run the Reporter for 11 years. Steve, the Bells’ 22 year old son, is not described beyond his age.

Twin Chevrolet Cars Damaged In Wayland Collision
Two nearly identical 1962 Chevrolet Chevy II models collided on a rural road northeast of Wayland. Edward Springer of Wayland sustained a fractured arm and cut lip and was treated in Wayland. Ethel Virginia Hauenstein of Olds drove the other car. Springer was charged with failure to signal before turning. Damage estimates were 475 dollars for Springer’s car and 355 for Hauenstein’s. The incident occurred at 3 40 p m near the William Freyenburger farm.

Senate Committee Backs Postal Rate Rise and Wage Hike
The Senate Post Office Committee approved a bill to raise postal rates across the board and grant a $1 billion pay raise to 15 million federal workers. First class letters would move from four to five cents and air mail from seven to eight cents, with newspapers and magazines rates also increasing. The measure aims to generate about $603 million yearly to reduce the Post Office deficit. The panel dropped a ban on Communist propaganda from mail and instead called for Customs Bureau screening of Communist-origin mail.
