Indianapolis mayor John L. Duvall on trial for corrupt practices testified he did not offer to let William H. Armitage name three municipal appointees in exchange for 14 500. He admitted receiving money but said no promise existed and money was returned through his brother in law. Armitage had offered 15 000 to back Duvall, and meetings with former Mayor Lew Shank were described.

Funeral of Mrs Willits Tuesday
Funeral services for Mrs Bert Willits will be held at four o clock tomorrow at the Methodist church with Dr W W Bowere presiding. Burial will be in Elm Grove cemetery. Mrs Willits died Sunday morning at 605 Past Second street after a five year illness of rheumatism. She was born May 12 1864 in New Boston Illinois and married Bert Willits January 17 188? in Nebraska before moving to Washington. Surviving are her husband six children and several brothers and a half sister.

Check Forger Held at Charles City Seized by Victim Trail
Lester Swift, 23, of Marshalltown, was arrested on a check forgery charge in Charles City as he attempted to cash his seventh for $20. Accomplice Ralph Quick, 23, of Huron, S. D., was held after being found in a waiting car. Swift had felled six earlier checks before being caught. money and goods were returned. He previously served time in a South Dakota prison and recently moved to Marshalltown.

Cooler weather follows heat wave and helps corn

Two St Josephs Hospital student nurses Goldene Reynolds 20 of Princeton and Le Parrish 17 of Coryda were killed when their car was blinded by oncoming lights and struck a telephone pole ten miles west of Centerville. Robert Brown suffered a broken collarbone and severed fingers. Vernon Jeffries was scratched and bruised. Coroner's inquest absolved both drivers of blame.
