Paris ministers approve a general pardon for Ex-Captain Dreyfus and indicate the measure will take effect in a few days. Dreyfus has withdrawn his appeal against the court martial verdict.
In Springfield labor lawyers argue contempt proceedings before Judge W J Allen over Carterville miners accused of violating a U S court injunction. They contend Big Muddy receiver used Illinois anti importation law to evade its terms, a point likely to be raised today. Carlyle farmer Henry Dam shot at home, severely wounded from a head wound as family heard groans.
Des Moines reports that nine of the required conventions for the house and senate have completed, leaving seventeen more. Seven districts are Republican, eight Democratic, and two doubtful. Gear men estimate fifty four house votes and twenty four senate votes as secure.
Chief Appleby and Officers Scheable Chamberlain and Whipple fought a group of about twenty tramps in a box car near the state line in Beloit. Disorderly conduct prompted police to intervene, but the rioters escaped after a bitter confrontation.

Racine Wisconsin sept 19 Alderman Albert J Linek of the sixth ward has been missing since Saturday. His parents and friends fear foul play and police have notified other cities but no trace is found. Linek is 22, 5 feet 11 inches, 170 pounds with black hair and moustache.

In Beaver Dam Wisconsin George Roedl and James Rau drank together Roedl claimed to be the magician Herrmann He cut Rau s neck with a large knife during a staged decapitation act and Rau died from wounds after doctors sutured the injuries The incident followed a gambling challenge cited from Chicago sports scores later that day with baseball results listed for several cities
