Dan Riley Dies in Burlington Hospital at 77
Dan Riley of Burlington died today at 7 15 am in a Burlington hospital after a year of illness. He led Riley Brothers oil firm and was named Citizen of the Year by the Burlington chamber of commerce. He leaves three brothers and two sisters with deep ties to the area. Funeral services are set for 9 am Saturday at St. Pauls Church.

Inquest Ordered Into Sunday Night Slaying
Des Moines officials ordered an inquest into the unsolved killing of Rose Grandanette a 33 year old suburban mother. Coroner R Corwin Johnson and County Atty Ray Hanrahan said the inquest will be held Tuesday evening. Her husband Bernard 36 said she was shot by one of three men who accosted him on his return from the grocery. Funeral services were held today and police will question her further after the funeral. Authorities noted conflicting reports about the slaying and that Grandanette had requested gun carrying permission.

Falling Plane Door Strikes Girl in Minneapolis
A metal door from an F89 fighter ripped away during a training flight at Wold-Chamberlain Airfield and struck a girl playing in her yard.
