Kalona Town Council awarded a 74900 contract to Karl Yoder Construction for a 64 by 80 foot fire station on town land north of the post office. Edwin L Leder Co submitted a higher bid of 24000. The building will house five vehicles a meeting room and a kitchen funded by general obligation bonds with work starting next week and completion planned for next spring.
Wiley was re-elected president J Kienara at a Washington Community School District re organization. Justine Hotle was named vice president and Robison with McCarthy were sworn in. Sept E Kelly Schlapkohl announced tentative move date Sept 23 for district offices to the new West Main Street center building.
Two Kalona residents pleaded guilty to federal larceny charges after admitting theft from Farmers Savings Bank on Feb 11. Richard Miller and Hal Steven Hoder, both 20, allegedly took 5600 in cash and 2900 in checks from a night depository. A presentencing investigation was ordered by District 11 Judge William Hanson.
In Des Moines delegates of the National Farmers Organization pledged 5 million dollars to reduce an 8 million dollar debt amid SEC fraud suits and possible receivership. President Oren Lee Staley led the emergency meeting with about 12 000 attendees promising another 5 million by Wednesday to avert government takeover.
On the fourth day of court ordered integration in Boston schools, about 800 police guarded routes as four buses with 140 black and six white students arrived at South Boston High School without incidents. Clergymen rode aboard, and 148 children attended L Street Annex with 87 blacks. Police and demonstrators clashed previously for three days, with arrests expected to decline.
Frank Willey of the International Molders and Allied Workers Union AFL-CIO told the Evening Journal that his group and local 159 are not involved in the lawsuit filed by John Gunnels and Daniel Lucas against Perfex Division McQuay-Perfex Inc in Washington. The two men filed the suit in district court here.

Robert Arthur a Washington businessman died at 9 30 a m at a Grand Island hospital after suffering a heart attack in Nebraska Sunday. The body will be returned to Washington for funeral arrangements pending at Jones Funeral Home. A memorial fund will be started for Mr Arthur.
President Ford outlines up to two years of alternative national service and allegiance pledge as the basis for amnesty for about 28 000 war resisters and deserters. Criticism pours in abroad and from veterans groups while Congress expresses mixed support and a clemency board is created. Eligibility targets those charged between 1964 and 1973 with surrender deadlines set for January 31.
State Safety Commissioner Charles Larson reports 49 motorcycle deaths in Iowa through August, down from 63 last year, a 22.2 percent drop. Overall traffic fatalities fall 26.9 percent. officials cite 55 mph speed limits and daytime neon lights, while helmet use remains not mandatorily required. Larson plans a push for a helmet law and a learner permit for motorcyclists.
