Firefighters battle trash fire at Art Wiley farm barn
Washington firemen were called out twice Saturday to extinguish a trash fire that spread to the roof of an empty barn on the Art Wiley farm 240 miles northwest of here. Tenant James Holwegner turned in the alarms, the first at 4 55 p.m. followed by another later in the evening. The roof was burned through in a few places but the damage was not extensive.

Fire Claim Kills Boy in Burlington Storage Shed
Burlington Iowa fire officials said two young brothers Darryl Payne seven and Faron eight may have started a blaze in a wood frame storage shed with matches. A two gallon gasoline can was found in the ruins. Faron was reported in good condition at Burlington Memorial Hospital with second degree burns.

Wounded hunters hit as bear season opens in Wisconsin
Four people were injured by stray bullets Sunday during the bear season opening near Grand View in Bayfield County. Charles Seiler of Madison was shot in the abdomen and hospitalized in Ashland in stable condition after surgery. His wife Cheryl was shot in the hand and listed in satisfactory condition.

National swine conference opens with Midwest entries expected

About 200 white youths and parents defied police in a disorganized anti-busing march through South Boston as a federal court order to integrate schools proceeded. One arrest reported. no violence, some trashcans thrown. Police lined streets with horses and helicopters to prevent a march on South Boston High School.

Plane sought in Winfield area after weekend crash
Henry County and state officials searched for an airplane believed crashed near Winfield Iowa after a distress signal from a plane crash was picked up by Cedar Rapids flight station. Ground forces and a search plane scouted a 10 to 15 mile radius Sunday night and again today as they hope to locate the missing aircraft.

Tile outlet terraces gain traction in Washington County
The Soil Conservation Service reports over five miles of tile outlet terraces built by 63 landowners since 196. In the past year thirty landowners completed nearly 14 miles across Lime Creek, Seventy Six, Dutch Creek and other townships while 27 more wait on earthmoving contractors. One third of new terraces repeat previous terracing, while two thirds are first time projects.
