Washington County Public Health Nurse office will hold its monthly immunization clinic on Tuesday Sept 20 at 1 pm in the basement of the courthouse. Washington Community School district requires proof of immunization for second semester enrollment.

Judge Won't Accept Plea In Lake Darling Break-In Case

District Judge Arthur McGiverin refused to accept 18 year old Thomas Provenzano's guilty plea to criminal trespass in the Lake Darling beach house break-in, urging a trial next Tuesday in Washington County District Court. Provenzano, an accomplice alleged lookout, disputed key facts. four men are charged in the July 20 incident with damages estimated at $100. Earlier, Bruce Gearin received a one year jail term for a June 4 break-in, while Edward Kleinberg 21 and Thomas Morrison 28 pleaded guilty to larceny of goods over $20 with October 7 sentencing set. both had been part of a July 27 theft from Booth Grocery in Brighton.

Old Capitol altered hours for Iowa State game

Iowa City Old Capitol will open 10 a.m. to noon and after the game until 6 p.m. on Saturday to allow visitors during the Iowa versus Iowa State football game. Regular home games see 10 a.m. to noon and 4 to 6 p.m. hours.

Burlington seeks to ban X movies

Four children slain in Missouri house killings

Camden County authorities found four children ages one to 14 shot to death at the George Swift home in central Missouri between 7 and 7:30 p.m. One or two gunmen entered through a side door and killed the three younger children before chasing the 14-year-old boy and killing him in the back yard. No robbery occurred and the parents were away. Autopsies to be conducted in Jefferson City.

Racing pigs seek record at Farm Show

At the Farm Progress Show north of Washington September 27 to 29, racing pigs will race 40 feet on a sawdust track in Heinold Companies tent. Twenty five pigs daily in 27 races per day with 50 to 60 pound animals in silk racing outfits. Visitors pick winners to win prizes. Nelson ends local taxi service and moves west

Nelson, who ran a 24 hour taxi venture, quits after failing to secure city subsidy funding. He plans to move to California with his family, saying after expenses he earned about 250 dollars a month. The city cited lack of funds for subsidies and a need for a formal plan. The only local transit now is county Mini-Bus service offering limited intra city transport.
