Tangles Habitat Project Aims To Improve Lake Darling Fishing

Iowa Conservation Commission crews on Lake Darling near Brighton created The Tangles a northeast section of the lake for artificial fish habitat. They placed triangular tire reefs maze like stake beds and wooden baskets to attract bass catfish bluegills crappies and bullheads with buoy marks designating the area. The program seeks to concentrate fish and boost catches while offering anglers a choice between The Tangles and open-water areas.

400 Farm Exhibits at 25th Farm Progress Show

The 25th anniversary Farm Progress Show will have over 400 exhibitors displaying in action. Held on Crawford Stewart and Jones farms eight miles north of Washington Iowa, the three day event runs September 27 to 29 with demonstrations of new tractors combines and livestock equipment.

Weather update says rain ends tonight

Rainy conditions ease this evening with a transition to partly cloudy skies. Tonight's low around 60 degrees followed by a Friday high in the mid to upper 70s. Winds will be south at 10 to 15 mph tonight.

Washington Community Schools board sets term details

The Washington Community Schools board discussed salary adjustments for teachers and aides, enrollment reports, student trips, and a revised high school telephone system. It set the organizational meeting for September 19 at 2 pm with reconvening September 20 at 8 am to finalize election canvass and oath of office for new members Robert Vanderlinden and Lyle Stacy.

Four flood victims add to Kansas City area toll

Floods in the Kansas City region have raised deaths to 23 with four more bodies found Wednesday night. Victims identified include Harris Yale, 29, Blue Springs. Barbara Wickware, 41, Independence. Brenda Bronson, 31, Edwardsville. and Rev Harold Thomas, 42, Fairway. President Carter declared a disaster area activating federal aid. Red Cross says aid remains, but many homeless seek shelter with friends while others take food and clothing and return to repair homes. About three dozen people stayed at the Salvation Army Mo Kan Camp on U S 40, the area’s last major communal shelter.

Upgrade status of local medico at Washington County Hospital

Washington County Hospital board approved James Gloor as a surgical assistant after a Dr. David Sidney recommendation citing Iowa rules on physician assistants. Jo Koehler was promoted to chief of laboratory services as Marilyn Hesseltineleft. Two new lab technicians Lola L Fiddelke and Robin K Feesmeier were hired. A new radiologist Dr. Douglas Boatman was added. July and August patient days were 892 and 763 with 144 admissions and an average stay of 4.5 days.
