Ruth Elder Plans Atlantic Flight From New York in 23 Year Old Pilot
Ruth Elder, 23, arrived in New York from Wheeling in the orange monoplane American Girl and vowed to fly to Paris no matter what. With co pilot Capt George Haldeman she said the Atlantic voyage could begin in two or three days if weather allows, receiving encouragement from Col Lindbergh. Roosevelt Field announced new trans Atlantic rules requiring multi engine planes water landing device radio navigator and strict inspection. Captain Haldeman suggested ways to work around the restrictions.
