In Washington Community School District of election Larry Robison won his race with 178 votes to 32 for James Hotchkiss. Area 2 Richard Wiley had 10 votes. Area X saw Max Lewis win 259. Highland bond for a new track failed 214 to 174. Incumbents re elected in Highland, Waco and Mid Prairie races while other districts recorded varied outcomes.

Selective Service Office to Close Local Washington County Site
The Washington County Selective Service office will close Oct 12 and transfer records to a regional Iowa City office as part of a regional hookup with Cedar and Johnson Counties. Local duties will shift but the local board and registrars will remain. Three men were ordered for induction in October. no orders in August or September. Number 95 is the highest lottery number this year, possibly the last for the system.

Rhonda Seering lies in serious condition in Mercy Hospital Iowa City ICU after being struck by a car last Thursday. She suffered multiple cuts and bruises, several broken ribs, a fractured leg and underwent spleen removal surgery on Sunday.
