Poison containers found hidden in Fort Detrick warehouse
Two containers of a CIA developed mass poison were found hidden in a Fort Detrick Maryland warehouse in possible violation of a presidential order. Challenge to public funds for private school bus transport in Iowa
A three judge federal panel will hear a lawsuit challenging state funded bus transportation for private school pupils in Iowa. Plaintiffs Americans United for Separation of Church and State and the Iowa Civil Liberties Union Foundation allege the law discriminates against public school pupils and violates the 14th Amendment. They seek an injunction to halt allocation of funds and bus service for non public students, contending the 1975- amended law favors private schools connected to churches and increases entanglement of church and state. The suit lists Des Moines, Dubuque, Fort Madison, Carroll, Maurice-Orange City, West Des Moines and Bettendorf districts as defendants. The plaintiffs cite 680,096 total riders in 1974-75, with 63,016 in non public schools, most linked to church control or affiliation.

Des Moines reports indicate corn harvest began in southern Iowa while others cut for silage. Most of the 1975 crop is in dough or dent stages, with 43 percent mature and frost safe. Growing conditions are 3 percent poor, 55 percent fair, 40 percent good, 2 percent excellent. Soybeans are in better condition due to recent rains, with expectations of a solid crop.

Baby Survives Lightning Bolt In Knoxville Tragedy
Knoxville, Iowa. A bolt of lightning vaporized wiring in a home killing Karen Hemmer, 26, while an 1 month-old Vietnamese orphan in her arms was unharmed. Hemmer stood barefoot near a refrigerator on rubber-backed carpet during the strike. A second child and neighbors witnessed smoke from an attic vent. authorities ruled the cause as lightning hitting the house.

Evacuation After Chlorine Gas Clouds Reach Gallipolis
About 1,500 residents fled their homes in Gallipolis Ohio River city after chlorine gas from a Stauffer Chemical Co fire spread over the area. By dawn roadblocks were removed and people returned to makeshift quarters in schools centers and the National Guard Armory. Mrs. Adalee Hart said everything was back to normal as the gas leak from the late Monday fire was contained.
