Labor shortage feared as French boom hinges on foreign workers

France faces a looming labor gap as foreign workers falter in showing up for jobs. Government figures show a steady drop in arrivals from Italy Spain Portugal Greece and Turkey. If the trend continues 1966-70 might see just over 300000 arrivals, threatening industrial expansion. Some blame higher wages in West Germany and Switzerland others point to Spain and Portugal industrialization. Algeria remains the largest source despite independence in 1962.
