In a near tie, William G Murray defeats Robert K Beck for the Republican gubernatorial nomination by 1,370 votes from 173,000 cast. Murray, ISU economics professor, 87,218 to Beck’s 85,848, 50.39 to 49.59 percent. Hughes unopposed in Democratic primary. Miller leads Senate race. France Withdraws From NATO Military Costs
France told the NATO Permanent Council it will halt its contributions to NATO military costs from 1967.
