Owensboro policeman John Westerfield was found in contempt of court for arriving 30 minutes late to testify in a drunk driving case. Judge William Bennett fined him $3, choosing to pay the fine rather than six hours in jail.
London police quickly identified and arrested Thomas Valentine after he returned to the same bank two days later with a gun and stole 3,300 pounds. The unemployed man had asked for a 500 pound loan to fund a second hand car business.
