Rural life toll rises as Labor Day crashes claim eight lives
The Labor Day weekend traffic toll in Iowa reached eight within five hours after 6 p.m. Friday, with five deaths from one-car crashes. A Marshalltown man died in a motorcycle crash, and three Dorchester residents perished near Caledonia, Minnesota. Additional fatalities included a Colfax pickup rollover, a Schaller one-car crash, a Mount Ayr two-car crash, and a Clarinda one-car crash. One Marshalltown rider, Robert Harmon, died when his motorcycle struck a car. the car's driver, Ida Wyllie, faced a failure-to-yield charge. The year’s toll rose to 530, up 51 from the prior year.

Plan to curb Medicaid costs eyed by House
In a move to rein in Title 19 of the Medicare Act the House measures seek to curb Medicaid spending.
