Mike Spanier of route three Keota died suddenly at his home eight miles southwest of Keota this morning. He had not been well for about a year and a half. Funeral arrangements were pending. Powell's Funeral Home of Keota will handle services.

Wilbur W. Caldwell Dies at Home in Washington
Wilbur W. Caldwell, 80, of 303 West Jefferson Street, died Tuesday evening after a prolonged illness. He spent most of his life on a Morning Sun farm before moving to Washington. Born March 31, 1878, to Milton and Martha Caldwell, he married Emma Kennedy in 1909. Survivors include his wife, three sons Glen, Wallace, and Philip, daughter Martha Moore, nine grandchildren, and one son Homer who preceded him in death. The body is at Sherman’s Funeral Home with final rites pending.

Warren Dare Scout Master of Methodist Boy Scout Troop 237 and troop committeemen met Tuesday evening to lay out troop activities for the next two months. They discussed the district Scout Camporee in Washington October 17 to 19 and announced a committeemen's breakfast on Thursday at 6 AM at the State Cafe to meet with Tom Hackney the new district Boy Scout executive from Iowa City to discuss further camporee details.

Local High School Joins in Science Traveling Library

In Davenport Iowa UPI report 19 year old Robert Colgan of Anchorage Kentucky had a lie detector test that supported his claim the fatal shooting of roommate Robert Walker was accidental. Colgan remains in custody in connection with the earlier western style shooting of Walker while William Gordon of Springfield Massachusetts is released. Walker was the son of U S Attorney J Leonard Walker Louisville Kentucky. The three men worked as magazine salesmen in Davenport.

Services for Thomas E. Nickolson 85, longtime Pleasant Plain and Wellman resident, will be at Brighton Thursday. Annual Fair Trip Nears End for A Kephart Couple
A Washington pair who have attended every Iowa State fair since 1935 faced a near disaster when Fred Kephart’s pickup overturned near Knoxville. He was hospitalized, many displays ruined, but Mrs. Kephart salvaged what she could and drove to Des Moines. Kephart later left hospital to join fair police and judges awarded numerous prizes for their improvised entries. The couple plans to try again next year.
