Washington Notes on Iowa Delegation and Tax Debate
Senator Clyde L. Herring and Rep. W. S. Jacobsen are listed as Iowa members in Washington for the week. The Senate Finance Committee favors broadening the federal income tax base to include lower brackets. President Roosevelt now supports taxing those previously exempt. Exemptions proposed drop from 800 to 750 for singles and 2000 to 1500 for married couples. Rep. Vincent Harrington is noted as paired on the selective service extension. Dem leaders fear peace in Europe before 1942 could hurt them at the polls. Other staffers returning from vacations are named.
