Des Moines. The state conservation commission approved federal migratory waterfowl regulations and established Iowa’s season from September 20 to December 8, inclusive, aligning with federal dates.
Gov. Dewey will not give a public address in Des Moines on September 11 during his visit. He plans brief talks with Iowa farm labor and business leaders, while Gov. Hickenlooper and Herbert Brownell Jr. discuss the schedule in Chicago. Arrival and departure times are not set.
Ottumwa Police Chief Charles F. Kapp warned distributors and operators of pinball machines to stop using them for gambling. He said taverns have used pinball as a gambling means without a direct payoff mechanism.
The war manpower commission moved five areas from Group % to Group 4, signaling a substantial labor surplus developing. The areas affected include Atlanta Georgia Des Moines Iowa Kansas City Missouri Whingsport Bristol Tennessee and Newton Iowa.
