Cedar Rapids workers reject union bids in NLRB elections
In Cedar Rapids two firms turned down the unions offered for NLRB elections. At Cedar Rapids Co-op Dairy Co workers voted 20 to 16 against the International Brotherhood of Teamsters. Midland Engineering Co workers rejected the Machinists bid and formed the Victory Tool and Die union. NLRB examiner Erwin A. Peterson says five days for objections will follow before final results.

University to House 1,058 Women in Iowa Dormitories
The University of Iowa will house 1,058 women in university residence units this fall the largest number ever accommodated. President Virgil M. Hancher announced the rental of three fraternities Beta Theta Pi Phi Delta Theta and Sigma Nu as emergency dormitories for women. The fraternities will care for 185 students.

Rural schools reach full staffing with two districts pending
County Superintendent Lester Krabill announced that all rural schools except Oak Grove Iowa Township and Maple Grove English River are staffed. Five previously vacant rural posts have been filled including Maud Cray in Linns Farm in Iowa Township and Ethel Scalf in Eagleville Lime Creek. Fifteen rural schools begin this week with eight more starting next week. A rural teachers meeting is set for Friday with Dr Olive Pearl Ritter of Iowa City to demonstrate primary and first grade methods.

213 Soldier Ballot Applications Reported in County Office
The county auditor reports 213 applications for soldier ballots from army navy and marine personnel for the November election. So far only two people asked for forms to mail to relatives in service. The August 29 opening date is noted and a batch of 66 applications arrived from the secretary of state, sent via Washington county service voters, with 26 more received on Monday.
