Mrs. Carl Redenbaugh and Mrs. Jim Armstrong of Tabor trap English sparrows in their chicken yards. Redenbaugh reports 402 sparrows caught this year while Armstrong has trapped 221.
Melvin Gene England seven year old son of Mr and Mrs Albert England died at a hospital here from blood poisoning that followed a sprained ankle. Surviving are his parents one brother and two sisters.
Former Kansas Governor Alfred M. Landon will address the Methodist brotherhood in Shenandoah on America's foreign policy. The broadcast will run from 8 to 8 30 p m via coast to coast radio hookup.
Mason City police arrested Jack Parson age 9 and Eddie Jones age 27 after finding them sleeping in a parked car in the downtown district. They admitted stealing the auto at Minneapolis on October 1, according to officers.
Ottumwa police report punchboards and a cigarette machine confiscated at the Midget cafe leading to charge against C. W. Carr as keeper of a gambling device. Merle Wallerich of Edgewater Inn charged as keeper of a disorderly house for permitting dancing violating city ordinance.
Howard F. Day of Webster City was killed when a shotgun he was setting against an auto discharged striking his left eye and face. Day hunted ducks along the Iowa river with two companions W. H. Schulte and Dr C Ruxton, also of Webster City.
Robert Wagner, nine, died of suffocation in Marshalltown when he tunneled into a sand bank to fashion a roadway for toy cars and a wall collapsed. Norman Kent and Billy Davis were nearby when the bank caved in. he was the son of Mr and Mrs William Wagner.

Washington Oct 30 The House Rules Committee voted to bring the neutrality bill to the floor under a rule opponents call a vicious gag The rule would allow a House vote on sending the bill to conference with the Senate which last week endorsed the administration's neutrality measure including embargo repeals on arms to belligerents.
The U S House unanimously allows the rules committee to file a rule by midnight to send the neutrality bill to Congress tomorrow. The death of Rev Chester Bolton Ohio Republican complicates the plan as the chamber pauses for Bolton’s funeral.
City workers repair a sewer leak traced to gasoline tanks near Fifth Street and North Marion Avenue after last week’s gas explosions. Two more manholes were added to ease future trouble and cooperate with tank owners to fix the issue promptly.
A special diesel locomotive pulling four cars rushed through Washington at 1 10 pm en route from Chicago to Kansas City. Rock Island officials and bondholders observed the speedy test as crews prepare to haul streamlined trains across Iowa by mid month. A yard switch engine and crew began handling freight to prevent congestion while workmen install signaling and stations for increased traffic.
Coroner's jury returns an open verdict in the shooting death of Carl Bivens. Ernest Pietch, called the Lochinvar of the air, had signed a confession, but it was ignored. The inquest occurred in a hall above a general store in a tiny village. Pletch is jailed in Macon, Missouri, and prosecutors from three counties will decide jurisdiction.
Willis Howard Todd age 77 died at 5 45 AM after a short illness and heart attack yesterday evening at the Claude Bain home 321 West Second street where he had lived recently. Funeral services set for Thursday 2 PM at Sherman’s funeral home conducted by Dr R C Keagy with Elm Grove cemetery burial. Born May 27 1862 in Cedar Township he lived on the family farm before moving to Washington in 1904 later splitting time with California stays. Survived by two sisters Mrs James K Zeck Washington and Mrs Emma Page and several nieces and nephews. Known for wide circle of friends and respected citizen.
New automatic crossing lights are to be installed on East Fifth Street just north of the railway underpass to regulate traffic at the junction with North Second Avenue. They are expected to be in operation within about ten days.
The Y M C A has strong church cooperation, with Rev Vernon Carter praising the Y as meeting a real need for boys through programs. Dr F W Eastwood notes Bible schools use the pool, about 500 children taking first lessons. Central park unveils a new memorial illuminated fountain with an iron pipe dome hat designed by Supt. P. L. Jordan. The covering, to protect nozzles and effects, will be completed in the next few days with galvanized sections forming a tight shelter atop the fountain bowl.
No 2808 urges Washington residents to honor war dead by buying VFW Buddy Popples on Armistice Day November 11. The call honors heroic World War I veterans still in government hospitals and asks the community to participate in the tribute.
Survivors of the Stonegate report the German prize crew aboard the City of Flint warned the American crew they would sink the ship if trouble arose after the Deutschland sank the Stonegate. The City of Flint, now under prize status, aims for a German port while guarded by armed Germans.
Kansas City October 30. Former Democratic boss Tom Pendergast and aide R. F. O Malley were indicted by the Jackson County grand jury on bribery charges connected to a fire insurance rate conspiracy. Pendergast is serving federal prison time at Leavenworth for income tax evasion. O Malley was state insurance superintendent.
Captain Eldridge receives promotion and transfer to 57th cavalry brigade staff as supply officer. He has served since 1919, with Troop FF and as squadron adjutant since 1982, under Brig Gen Ray Venter in Des Moines.
