The Elk Horn Iowa man L A Anderson joined a poker game with strangers from the city. He lost about 1250 dollars but with officers help located one swindler and recovered 500 dollars which will help this winter.
Charles Kacere, driver involved in a crash that killed six in a 1923 collision near Waverly, was cleared of manslaughter after Judge J J Clark ruled the coroners inquest testimony during his skull injury could not be relied on. The wreck killed three Waterloo businessmen including Harry Keister.
Six people were injured seven miles west of here in a two car collision last night. Parsons College students among the injured include two men and four young riders Eldon Lowther Prescott and Florence Keefer Creston were cut and bruised while Virgil Dailey and Carl Boysell Fairfield youths were lightly hurt.
Governor Clyde L. Herring announced the distribution of 1 028 780 59 in state retail sales tax receipts among emergency relief general state and administration funds. A total of 457 776 97 was turned over to the relief fund completing the 38 000 000 allocation approved by the general assembly for relief purposes as of the sales tax revenue.

East Liverpool Ohio reports six people burned to death when a fire destroyed a two room house on squatters land. Ralph Lane 38 a mill worker and four Lane children aged eight to sixteen perished. Neighbors said the children were in the burning home. foremen forced walls to find bodies. The man and woman were found seated upright in chairs.

Rev. F E J Shook of the Ainsworth Methodist Church was named president of the Washington county ministerial association at the annual meeting held at the YMCA. Rev. S Owen Fillmore of Brighton was named vice president and Rev. C S Williams of Washington secretary and treasurer. The group commended retiring secretary treasurer Rev. Thursday November 8 visitors may view 1:30 to 6:30 p m with the display closed that evening for a fort nightly meeting. Friday November 9 the exhibit is open 2:30 to 6:40 p m and 7 to 9 p m.
State investigators disclosed a six day inquiry tied to the Dillinger wooden gun jail escape from Lake county jail on March 3. The probe alleges two murders were carried out to silence those who knew too much about the escape and the payoff arranged through bootlegging syndicate control. Police released no names of the victims in Crown Point.
Wilma Miller, former Ainsworth girl now living in Des Moines, joins the San Carlo Opera Company for a Des Moines engagement on December 2 3 and 4. She will perform Gilda in Rigoletto after recent engagements in Chicago and Toronto. The Chamber of Commerce sponsors the Des Moines appearance and plans to cheer Miller.
Mr and Mrs Harry Ward returned from Chicago after several days there. They visited Mrs Ward s brother P F Williams and his wife during the trip.
Mrs Floyd Harvey 47 died last night at 11 88 at the family home 220 North Marion avenue after a two week illness Funeral services set for Wednesday at 1 30 pm at L A Jones funeral home with the Carnation Rebekah lodge of Iowa City taking part Burial in Muscatine She was born Laura H Tooman October 25 1887 at Nichols Iowa and later lived in West Liberty Washington and since 1920 in Washington She is survived by her husband Floyd Harvey father George Tooman of Washington a sister Mrs Carrie Waryant of Iowa City a niece Mrs H P Betts of Tipton and her mother is deceased She was a member of the Rebekah lodge at Iowa City.

Orr Gibson and Lytle elected to three year terms on the board. Delinquent dues collection and budget balance were reviewed as the club plans a potential purchase next year.
Dr and Mrs A W Clow visited Grinnell Sunday to spend the day with their daughter Betty who is attending Grinnell College. Mr and Mrs Rk Warfel accompanied them.

Authorities say Adolph Martens 50 of Keswick is to be arraigned at 10 a m Thursday for murder of his wife Stella 42 and stepdaughter Maxine Abel 14. Martens surrendered Sunday and is jailed without bond. Bodies were found Aug 4 at the Keswick farm. a signed confession was found.
Funeral services were held at the Lee Ralston home in West Chester for Mrs Minerva Ralston age over eighty. She died Saturday at her son’s home. A pioneer of the area she was well known in West Chester Kent and had many friends in Washington.
