Accident Injuries Fatal to Long-Time City Resident
Metta M. Nelson 76 life long Washington resident died at Washington county hospital from injuries after being struck by a car driven by Robert L. Brewer 21 Washington. The collision occurred Wednesday evening at West Madison street and South Avenue B with smoke from burning leaves said to have impaired the driver’s vision. Nelson was born in Washington in 1872 and survived by two sisters and a nephew with two brothers predeceasing her. Burial will be in Woodlawn cemetery after services at Sherman's Funeral Home. Officials stated no charges will be filed against Brewer.

Riverside, Oct 28 Ann Rose six year old daughter of Mr and Mrs Charles Rose was treated at Mercy hospital Iowa City after being struck by a car Wednesday at 3 34 pm. Mary Frances Tener driver of the car was northbound on the Catholic school hill when Ann darted from behind a parked car into the street. The girl dropped a book and was struck while reaching for it. She suffered head bruises and cuts on her lips but was not believed seriously hurt.

Born June 27 1916 in Jefferson county Iowa she lived in Washington before Cedar Rapids. She was a Methodist and sister of O D Ferguson of Washington. Surviving are her husband a daughter Bette and a son Richard at home three brothers and one sister with many relatives.
