Riot police teargassed and fought demonstrators as anti-government labor protests in Santiago continued for a third day. Central Bank employees led a protest near Morande Street and Constitution Plaza, with tear gas filling the palace area as talks with President Allende stalled and security discussions continued.
Two young men David Sauer aged 19 and Earl Ray Cottrell aged 18 were jailed on marijuana possession charges after a juvenile was turned over to the county juvenile officer. Police stopped a car on Highway 1 north of Washington around 11:20 p.m. Thursday when a small pouch of marijuana was tossed from a window. A later search found only a kit of matches cigarette papers and a holder used by marijuana smokers. Both suspects await preliminary hearings and bond posting at Washington County jail.
