Robert Shannon former Keokuk County clerk of court pleaded guilty in Keokuk County District Court to embezzlement by a public official. Judge Ira Morrison set sentencing for 9 a.m. Nov. 13. Bank Robbery Night Deaths in Arlington
In Arlington two robbers in yellow repairman disguises killed bank manager Harry Candee and patrolman Israel Gonzalez during a robbery at Arlington Trust Co. Candee died at the scene. Gonzalez, the first Arlington officer killed on duty since 1954, died after six bullet wounds in a gunfight. Suspects include a father and son and an unnamed accomplice. County Buys New Ambulance For Local Service
The Board of Supervisors approved purchasing a new 1972 Cadillac ambulance from Foster Coach Sales of Sterling Illinois for 13650 dollars. The four passenger unit includes a scoop stretcher and meets federal ambulance guidelines while offering independent climate control and a comfortable ride. The board plans to acquire a van type ambulance next year to replace aging vehicles and use the old 1961 and 1960 models for parts or disposal.
