Da Nang Marine base attacked as Plei Me siege ends
Communist guerrillas struck Da Nang air installations injuring the large U.S. Marine air complex. BEA Airliner Crashes on London Runway Kills 36
In fog at London Airport a BEA Vanguard four engine airliner attempting a landing exploded after a third overshoot. All 30 passengers and six crew perished. Pilot Capt Norman Shackell, 43, was highly experienced. Rescue found 16 bodies along the runway, including a child. No Americans aboard.

Citizens Volunteer for Halloween Patrol in Washington

Mrs. Mary Reister Dies at 76 in Iowa City
Mrs. Mary Reister 76 of 505 North Iowa Avenue died today October 27 1965 after three years of ill health. Funeral Friday at 9:30 a.m. St James Catholic Church with burial Elm Grove Cemetery. She was born February 2 1889 in Keuts Indiana and wed William Minick in 1910 then C. C. Reister in 1938. both husbands preceded her. Survivors include three sons Raymond Donald Richard and numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren. She was active in St James Catholic Church and several Catholic and veterans groups.

A UPI survey shows draft boards nationwide to email callups to childless married men within days. The Selective Service allowed use of low priority classifications to fill quotas, with initial calls expected in December or January. States including California, Oklahoma, South Carolina, Arkansas, Texas, Maryland, Illinois, Utah, Kansas and Minnesota anticipate early inductees, while others may defer to the new year.
