Washington Co Farm Bureau meeting draws about 150

About 150 people gathered at the St James gymnasium in Washington Monday evening for the annual Washington County Farm Bureau Meeting. Featured speaker was J Merrill Anderson, president of the Iowa Farm Bureau Federation. President Robert Jones opened the meeting, reports were given, and new officers and directors were elected unanimously.

October Halloween Costume Contest Planned by Committee

The Halowe en Planning Committee announces a city wide Halloween Party and costume contest for Saturday October 30 open to children from pre school through sixth grade. Registration at 6 p.m. in front of the YMCA. Contest divisions include pre school, K-3, and 4-6 with 15 winners receiving one dollar. Parades led by the junior high marching band will circle the square and prizes awarded at the YMCA program.

Riverside election fields fourteen candidates for three offices

Riverside residents file for mayor councilman and treasurer seats. Incumbent Robert Schneider faces William Cushing in the mayoral race. Council seats feature Stanley Dutler Ralph Kloppfer Dale Southwick and other contenders Cleo Gerot Frank E Kaalberg Pat Knebel Leroy Miller Paul Scherrer Ralph Schnoebelen Theodore Pratt Richard Veggy. Washington Mayor Warns on Hydrant Openers

Washington Mayor Cloid Wil lits and the Washington City Council warned parents of children who open city water hydrants that they may be fined up to 100 dollars. In the last two days several hydrants have been opened causing great expense to the city taxpayer.

Washington Golf and Country Club elects officers

The Board of Directors met Monday to elect new officers: Jim Lloyd as president, Ted Johnson as vice president, and Wayne Marston as secretary treasurer. Committees will be appointed later. Leon Hillman announced the city residential drive begins Monday November 1. The Washington Marine Corps League will meet at 7:30 p.m. Thursday at City Hall.

U N Kashmir Hold County 4 H Convention Saturday Night

Washington County 4 H members from 31 clubs gather at Washington High School auditorium Saturday October 30 at 7 30 p m for the County 4 H Convention organized by the County 4 H Council and featuring new flags a large 4 H banner and remarks by Miss Pat Blarton State Girls Vice President. Nominees face questions by Claude Woods with voting by clubs. Seventy five percent of 1965 project members must attend. Two honorary members to be initiated and John and Sue Foster awards presented. County Historian Abbie Timmins display planned. Entertainment includes Sound of Music numbers and a red hot combo. Public invited.

UN Security Council held emergency talks as the Soviet Union accused NATO officers of staffing Kashmir observer posts. The charge targeted U S Ambassador Goldberg and questioned Secretary General Thant’s role. Washington County Community Action Committee Incorporates

The Washington County Community Action committee voted to form its own nonprofit corporation named Washington County Community Action Program Incorporated. Officers and current members become incorporators and directors, with articles outlining membership, voting, and annual meeting plans. Resume Prosecution of 15 Amish Fathers

In Hazleton Iowa authorities resume prosecution of 15 Amish fathers who refused school attendance requirements. Each man pled not guilty, receiving $20 fines and $4 costs. Abe Yoder, previously absent, was fined $144. two others with two absences were fined $48. None paid fines, to be levied as liens on sect land.

Viet Cong attack at Pleime siege enters seventh day

In the Central Highlands near Pleime two camps faced a major Viet Cong assault. U S air and artillery strikes disrupted the attackers as relief units formed outside the perimeter. The fighting lasted hours with insurgents pressed back by air support and fortified U S troops. A second clash occurred at a nearby camp in Binh Long Province with light Vietnamese casualties and air and naval support keeping communists at bay.

Gemini 6 Crew Return After $15 Million Setback

UPI reports Gemini 6 pilots Walter Schirra and Thomas Stafford head home after a $15 million failure of the Agena target rocket ends their chase. The space program shifts focus to Gemini 7 crew Frank Borman and James Lovell for a possible two week mission, with 1966 as the target for their flight.

Weather Outlook for Iowa Turns Fair and Mild

United Press International reports generally fair weather in Iowa this afternoon and tonight, with cooler conditions in the north on Wednesday. Light winds from the northwest to north, tonight’s lows 30 to 35 north and 33 to 38 south, with Wednesday highs in the mid 50s north to mid 60s south. Outlook for Thursday remains fair and mild.
