Searchers in Lake of the Woods country in Canada have given up hope of finding alive Frank Klumpar age 56 of Independence and his companion G L Drakes of Cedar Rapids. The men disappeared Oct. 13.
Mount Vernon Mrs Thomas Nicholson was re elected president of the Women's Foreign Missionary society in convention here. Officers may be changed in April when three Methodist societies will merge.
Cresco residents Rev. and Mrs. H. M. Normann announced their two sons Harold and Rolf had landed safely in New York after being delayed in Europe by the war. Harold, of Cresco, had planned to study music abroad, and Rolf, a Lutheran pastor in North Dakota, sailed for Europe on August 15.
David R. McCreery announces Fort Madison penitentiary production expansion to re-enter furniture business. Floyd G. Cooper of Woodward will serve as sales manager to dispose of merchandise, with initial sales in the open market.
Edward S. White of Carroll sues Sioux City businessman Roy S. Warfield for fifty dollars claiming Warfield promised payment for seeking possible evidence for Richard Persing alias Mahoney, acquitted nearly two years ago in Carroll for a murder linked to a casino dice game hold up.
Des Moines reports Jeannette Tart Coyle 18 sues Harold L. Coyle 21 for divorce at Pols county courthouse after a two day marriage. Jeannette alleges cruel and inhuman treatment endangering her life and health. Harold is a Hotel Savery steward.
A week of slot machine thefts hits Sioux City area as four men posing as officers remove nearly a dozen devices from club rooms. The group claimed orders from an unnamed source to seize the machines, one showing a badge as proof.

A lone bandit wearing dark glasses robbed the Aetro Savings Bank in McIntyre Iowa at 11 am taking between 9500 and 600 in currency. Bank manager R D Williams and assistant Miss Grace O Brien witnessed the hold up and noted a covered plate car nearby. The suspect, about 40, wore farm clothing and sped off in a car seen shortly before. The scene lies near Mitchell county close to the Minnesota border.
A Jackson bus sustained a mashed right front fender after a car ran a stop sign and cut into its path at Keota. The car’s female driver was slightly injured and the bus was towed to a local garage for repairs.

Funeral Monday 9 am at St Marys Church with burial in St Vincents Cemetery. Born Sept 27 1874. Married Nov 1900 to Nettle Smith. He ran a dairy and lived in Riverside Cedar Rapids and Chicago. His wife died in 1929.
