He says the impostors obtained his name and address, released him, then returned to demand another $500 bond to avoid arrest.

A gale off the Newfoundland coast saw the German liner Deutschland fighting a fire with its 369 crew and 591 passengers aboard. The blaze was extinguished at 6 25 in the morning after rescue ships answered urgent distress calls and Captain Karl Steincke reported the fire under control. The ship continued toward New York with all aboard reported well.
