Webster City announces no more bank nights as manager Arthur Downard ends the program due to waning public interest. The move marks a shift in local banking social events and community offerings.
Ames radio station WOI at Iowa State College relocates to the new college service building. The former studio in the engineering annex is to be remodeled into an architectural engineering laboratory.
A jury convicted Elmer Messingham, 44, of Waterloo of driving while intoxicated. It was the nineteenth conviction on the charge in six weeks. Lyle Welcher of Waverly was sentenced to 60 days after a drunken driving conviction, and William E. McNamara of Rowley faced the same charge as jurors began hearing evidence.
A road tractor operator, 26 year old Rinker of Ogden, was killed in Boone County when his tractor overturned on a steep slope and caught fire. He became pinned under the machine and died after another tractor was used to pull the Caterpillar tractor free from him.
Des Moines The state supreme court ruled that senior township No 76 in Muscatine County must cover tuition for pupils at Muscatine High School living at the Evangelical Lutheran Society Christian Charity Home. The court said the children were residents of the appellant district and the township owed $1,729 for 1930 through 1937.
H A Grantham, secretary of the Republican state central committee, says Iowa should have its own office building. Observers doubt Governor Wilson will call a special session for this, as the state currently pays about 120000 dollars yearly rent for space in six Des Moines buildings.
Howard Davis aged 60, O'Brien county recorder, pled guilty before District Judge O. Thomas at Cherokee to embezzlement by a public officer. He received a sentence not to exceed 10 years at Fort Madison penitentiary and a fine of $1,150. The shortage amount, as found by State Examiner S. Ro Hix, is not yet determined but will exceed $1,150.

Born October 11, 1876 near Washington he was a son of Moses and Susan Doig and lived most of his life in Washington area with a spell in Cres ton Iowa. He leaves a sister Mrs Roy Dawson of Brighton.
Des Moines reports 1939 corn crop on October 10 showed moisture content of 16.5 percent, according to state meteorologist Charles D. Reed. He noted this is the driest on record, compared with the previous 20.2 percent in 1933.
