A coroner's jury ruled that Sheriff Roy K. E. Wilson acted in self defense when he shot Joseph Simco, 39, after Simco chased the sheriff shouting threats near Rowen. Simco, a World War II veteran, reportedly waved a long blade, terrorized Mrs. Ed Riley and her daughter Dolly before officers arrived.

Boy Killed Riding Bicycle Near Hopkinton

Denies Fraud in Selling Household Furniture
Newton painter Paul Larimer, 39, pleaded innocent in district court on a charge of obtaining money under false pretense. He allegedly obtained 500 from the sale of household furniture awarded to his wife in a divorce and was held on a 2000 bond. Cedar Rapids Man Dies Of Infantile Paralysis
Edward Weich aged 50 died Sunday in the State University of Iowa hospital at Iowa City from poliomyelitis. He had suffered pneumonia before the diagnosis and was an engineer for the Northwestern railroad. He is the third Cedar Rapids resident to die from the disease this year, officials said.

LeRoy F. Richards of Waterloo Iowa pleaded innocent to illegal transfer through sale of gasoline ration coupons. He was bound over to the federal grand jury, bond set at 2000 dollars. Two Kalona youths Wayne Hoehle aged 16 and Tom McKenzie 14 were rushed to Mercy hospital Iowa City after a head on collision on highway 22 three miles west of Kalona at 5 25 yesterday. Mr and Mrs Walter Harvey of Grinnell and former Washington residents were seriously hurt when their car was struck by a train on Saturday night. Relatives learned of the accident around 10 pm as the Harveys returned from a church event. Mrs Harvey suffered a jaw fracture and arm injuries. Mr Harvey has a brain concussion and broken arms. relatives said twin sister Mrs Holmes and sister Mrs McClure were en route to Iowa City to visit.
